I don't think you are breaking any rules. We have never had to become your fan in order to enter your giveaways..it has always been an unrequired "extra" entry. On the other hand, I entered an IMAX sweepstakes in October where the only rules were to upload a certain kind of picture to Facebook and each day that you wrote on their wall it was an entry. THAT would now be a violation of their new rules (still bogus imo). As long as people can enter your promotion without even being members of Facebook, you are fine..it is not a condition of entry.

As far as the second point you boldprinted..nothing on Facebook (except a Facebook approved form), can gain automatic entry. When people become your fan they do not receive an extra entry until they come back to your blog and leave a comment. In the IMAX example, a Facebook comment WAS an entry. In your contests, the WeeView comments are entries.

Facebook is just trying to avoid liability, especially in light of the new FCC regulations that take effect next month. As long as you are not running a "Facebook Contest" your Facebook account will be safe. I would not be surprised to see twitter post similar new rules in the next few weeks.

Well, I don't own a blog, but I do have a Facebook Page and I let sites put info about such on my Facebook page, or I let others know about such on my facebook page. I didn't know I was breaking the law. I wish Facebook would have emailed each of it's Facebook accounts that they had new rules regarding such as of Nov. 4th of this year.
I won't be doing this anymore, but this is truly a drag, because I thought I was helping others have an opportunity to enter too.

I had no idea! I always use Facebook to promote giveaways and as a major form of communication with my fans. This has given me food for thought. :)

I think you were fine with what you were doing. But i did find the rules a little confusing. So i guess it is better to be safe than sorry.
