Christmas Gift Idea for Women

During these dog days of parenting, I find myself wearing the same stretchy pants, cozy socks, comfortable tees. This lack of imagination extends to my hair, always pulled back in a ponytail and lucky to be washed every other day. It isn’t surprising, then, that I haven’t worn make-up in a good, long while. I’m just a plain-Jane Mama and like the many women around me, I am too busy taking care of babies and managing lives to put myself at the top of my To Do List.

But there are times that I am required to make public appearances. Whether that means attending a business meeting or doing a quick grocery run, stretchy pants, ponytails and sans make-up are unacceptable choices. The Mineral Fusion make up I received for review was a perfect kick start to a healthier public image. Included in the package were Mineral Fusion’s Shine-Free Blotting Tissues, Lipstick, Pressed Powder Foundation, Eye Shadow and Liquid Lip Gloss.

Mineral Fusion is a company “committed to keeping you and our world beautiful”, by employing a philosophy “to create eco-friendly products, using sustainable technologies that will not deplete our planet of its remaining resources.” This company, located in Colorado, does this by using recycled and postconsumer waste materials (making sure to maximize recycled content and processing chlorine free), utilizing certified renewable energy for its paper production, prints with soy ink (and consequently has low VOCs), and ensure that it and its vendors do not test animals.

Mineral Fusion posts the ingredients to its products on-line as well as printing this valuable information on its packaging. The website also provides beauty tips and how to best select the shades that work for your colouring. Mineral Fusion makeup is comprised of micronized minerals, so it actually sits on the surface of the skin and isn’t absorbed into it, meaning that it will not clog pores or present a “cakey” look. Mineral Fusion’s products are free of parabens, talc and chemical dyes. They do contain natural preservatives, antioxidants and micronized Titanium Dioxide, which acts as a natural sunscreen.

My favorite product was the Liquid Lip Gloss. Not a “kissing gloss” (it is too thick for lip-locking), it certainly stayed on and made my lips look healthy and un-mom like. The eye shadow goes on wonderfully light, is shimmery and fits easily in any small pocket. The lipstick is creamy and didn’t dry out my lips like other lipsticks I have had in the past. I recruited an oily-skinned friend to try out the blotting papers and she reports that the 100+ package is a great addition to any purse (or diaper bag if you are only carrying one thing these days), and that “they really work!”
