Christmas Gift Idea for Children
Sleep is an on going saga in our house. DD, who is now just over 15 months, still isn’t sleeping through the night. Many nights she is up only 1 time, and will go right back to sleep after a bottle,,, while other nights – well, we don’t like to talk about it much. Does it count as morning time if you haven’t slept a wink and still have to “get up” for work?!?
It is a known fact that children have hard time getting to sleep and in many cases (like mine) staying asleep during the night. Cloud B , a company that I had the opportunity to review in the past, has sleep aids for children. This time around, they sent the Gentle Giraffe for review.
The Gentle Giraffe is a plush toy that has a sound machine inside with 4 different types of sound. The sounds include:
Play - Safari Groove - which is kind of like an African theme with drums and a lion roaring.
Calm - Safari Trail - sounds like a rain forest with birds churping
Relax - Victoria Falls - is complete white noise, just nothing but the “snow” channel on tv
Sleep - Mother’s Heartbeat- this is the sound of a mother heartbeat through ultrasound
As you can see, there is a good variety of sounds that the Gentle Giraffe plays. My favourite is the heartbeat. I wish I would have had this Giraffe just after DD was born. It would have been so comforting for her to hear that noise since she heard it 24/7 for 9 full months.
I thought it would be interesting to see what it felt like to sleep with the Gentle Giraffe myself, so I brought it to bed, and played the heartbeat – I was asleep (the kind of sleep where you fall asleep so fast you jump) in less than 2 minutes. I don’t know if it had anything to do with the giraffe, but it sure felt comforting to hold him in my arms and listen to the sound of a heartbeat.
The Gentle Giraffe by Cloud B also has a timer and volume control (and came with it’s own batteries – BONUS). The timer has two options – 23 or 45 minutes, and the volume control can be really soft or loud, so you could place this anywhere in a child’s room and they will be able to hear it. It does not have to be right next to the child’s crib.
The Gentle Giraffe also has a little velcro hook, so you can take it with you on a stroller (and not lose it), or stick it onto a highchair, or the car seat. The velcro clasp is a very smart idea, I don’t know how many times I have been shopping with DD and we have lost a toy. We are guaranteed not to lose the giraffe – it is very easy to hook it onto anything, including the crib.
For some reasons Giraffe’s have become a huge hit in our home. I think it’s because my daughters name is DD and giraffe starts with “G” as well. We bring the giraffe along with us everywhere we go, she seems to like it, and so do we.
