I pursue organizational efficiency like an athlete goes after their personal best. This obsession began a few years ago when my husband and I took two weeks to travel the Pacific Coast Highway using one backpack between the two of us. For those experienced in travel, you know how easy this is, but at the time I was new to the idea of “packing light” and wasn’t very pleased about the decision to do so on this particular journey. But, like many things in our lives, my husband’s brilliance started a wonderful new trend for our family.

The Alpha Sherpa Diaper Backpack was designed for parents on the go, with its multifunctional features and ergonomically comfortable design. Think upper end hiking pack meets diaper bag. (“Sherpa” refers to the people of the Himalayan region, many of whom work as guides for those climbing Mount Everest). Sherpa is synonymous with strength, stamina and the ability to withstand the demands of life and an apt descriptor for this backpack.

Even after two weeks of using the Alpha Sherpa Diaper Backpack I received for review, this bag continued to amaze and surprise. At the two week mark, I found a feature I hadn’t noticed before – I wouldn’t be shocked if this pack just got up one day and did my dishes. It is as comfortable as any of my hefty hiking packs (some of which have cost me a lot of dough) and fits quite comfortably when coupled with a front baby carrier.

I could go on forever about what the Alpha Sherpa Diaper Backpack offers, so I will shortlist my favorite features:

• The waist and sternum (chest) straps, which have clips to hang your most needed items like soothers, beloved toys and keys. These straps increase the comfort of carrying the pack and I don’t really notice the weight at all, even when I stuff it to the gills.
• Soft sided cooler. As brilliant as my husband. This allows us to pack our strained carrots and a snack for me; fits an ice pack easily. Can also hold wet items for when we go to the pool. The pack also has an insulated detachable bottle holder, which is the perfect size for our smaller metal drinking bottle.
• Bungee cords on the back. Our daughter loves being able to access her favorite plush toys without our help – we often have Tigger poking out from the “X” at the back, announcing to the world that we are proud parents. The soft panel directly behind the bungee cords is a fabulous place to roll up extra large baby blankets.
• Pockets, pockets, pockets. Alpha Sherpa is loaded with storage compartments, large enough to be practical and numerous enough to make an outing easy. There are 9 (nine!) pockets in all.
• Size. Large enough for our baby gear, small enough to be classified as carry-on luggage.
• Safety. The Alpha Sherpa is PVC free, lead free and contains no hazardous chemicals.

Even if you are not active, the Baby Sherpa is the perfect diaper bag. It has won the iParenting Media Award, the iParenting Hot Award, been given the National Parenting Center Seal of Approval, Parenting’s Mom-Tested Featured Pick and has gotten two thumbs up from my family.
