During my pregnancy, I was given a book to record what seemed like an endless amount of information about me and my unborn child. Needless to say, I didn’t get around to filling out anything beyond the first 5 pages. For review, I received Zaida Baby My First Keepsake, a journal dedicated to your pregnancy and baby’s first year. This pregnancy book is like no other that I have seen on the market and promises that you will actually use every page. The book opens with a long love letter to the baby (from you), accompanied by black and white photos on the opposing pages. The love letter takes up approximately the first half of the book and includes such quotes and sentiments as:
“Beautiful baby… you’re my life, my breath, my song. I’ll cherish you, believe in you, love you forever, my miracle child” – Emily Wierenga
and
“I promise to nurture you…”
The idea behind the letter is so that the parent can begin bonding with their babe long before she or he makes their way into the world. The feelings and thoughts expressed in the letter are tender and evoked a contemplative peace as I read through the pages. The Zaida Baby website, www.zaidababy.com/myfirstkeepsake, cites medical research that the unborn child is capable of learning, able to hear and respond to voices and sounds, is sensitive to his/her parents’ feelings about him/her, capable of responding to love and is an active, feeling human being.
It would be a beautiful pastime for each day of your pregnancy; taking the time to acknowledge the miracle inside of you and a moment for yourself. We all know the fast paced changes that happen to your body during this growth period; this book offers a prompting to accept and love them.
The Zaida Baby My First Keepsake book is a way to preserve precious memories from pregnancy to first birthday, all wrapped up in black linen with silver foil stamping for a chic, sleek look. The second half of the book can be completely customized with photographs and stories. An example of the thoughtfulness of this book is a designated space for you to write a letter to your unborn child and a place on the facing page to paste in a maternity photograph. Every child I have ever met and spent time with loves to hear about their time in Mommy’s tummy and their birth story, so it is very easy to see how My First Keepsake would play a huge role in documenting those important moments. The book could serve as your very own story book for years to come.

It is worthy to note that My First Keepsake is made of acid free archival pages, so your memories (and work) will be preserved without worry. As an extra bonus, the pages are made of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) approved recycled paper, so you can feel good about your purchase. The hard cover book measures 8 ½” x 10” and is made in North America. The book is not just for nuclear families; single parents can also use My First Keepsake. Also, this keepsake speaks to multi-cultural, faith-based and mainstream audiences. The best part of My First Keepsake is that the message is kept positive. A positive pregnancy, a positive birth and a positive first year.

I love the idea of mom reading aloud to her belly, as the baby begins to grow and develop in a safe and nurturing environment. Medical research proves that parents’ voices are the most important sounds in a baby’s environment…and simple conversations have such a huge impact on your child’s self-confidence.
