WWF – Tote and Plush Toy – CLOSED

by Mommy on October 12, 2009

It’s easy to talk about being green and doing green things, but actually putting into action is a whole other thing.  If everyone did just a little sometime to help our planet, it would be a better place for you, me and our children.  The World Wildlife Federation has an interactive website called Living Planet Community to help people understand what large and small actions can be taken to help our planet.

wwf-1The Living Planet Community is a realistic community, just like you or I live in.  By clicking around the site you can learn about different ways that businesses can use environmentally friendly resources like wind turbines that could power a hockey rink or an apartment building with a solar panel on the roof.

Some places in Canada have made some huge changes to the way the conduct business and you can read all about the neat things companies are doing on the Living Planet Community website.  You can also learn about some interesting Canadian Stats things like green house gases and fossil fuels.

wwfIt is our responsibility to take care of our plant if we want to be able to continue to use it in the future.  With the help if WWF bringing some things into the light, we can make this world a better place for all of us.

If you want to help make a difference, sign up on the Living Planet Community website.  Whether you are a single person at home, or own a large corporation, everyones actions added together is what will make the difference.

Giveaway: WWF would like to offer a lucky My Wee View reader a Tote and Plush Toy to help promote their new website

The green economy is the future. Let your city council and local utility company know that you want green local energy solutions, and the jobs that go with them. Talk to your provincial and federal parliamentarian about making these climate solutions more accessible. The power is yours!

There’s a lot more you can do to speed the transition to clean, green energy and join the fight against climate change:

It is our responsibility to take care of our plant if we want to be able to continue to use it in the future. (:

I learned that: Putting up ceiling fans in a few key rooms in your house can reduce your air conditioning costs in the summer, or even prevent you from needing A/C at all.

I learned that in this century, global warming is expected to be one of the greatest drivers of species extinction, particularly for those species that have already declined due to other human-caused factors. I knew it was bad but I didn’t know it was this bad!

At the Copenhagen climate meetings in December 2009, world leaders from over 180 countries will meet to try to craft a fair, effective and science-based agreement to stop global warming.

I learned we are burning fossil fuels at such an extreme rate that the blanket of greenhouse gases is thickening to the point at which our planet is quickly heating beyond the healthy range.

I learned what stakes were:
Stakes are friendly wagers that make challenging other groups even more fun by upping the ante. For each challenge you create, you can choose suggested stakes, or create your own. Its up to you and the groups you challenge to enforce them, so make them reasonable and fun.

I learned that every contribution counts. Collectively, efforts to reduce emissions add up quickly, but that’s not the only way in which your actions are meaningful. Your participation sends a signal to your friends, neighbours, and the government that says, “I’ve done my part, now it’s your turn.”

kathy pease October 23, 2009 at 5:41 pm

The precise greenhouse gas reductions associated with any individual’s actions will vary. For example, the greenhouse gas reductions from choosing to leave your car at home and take transit instead will depend on what kind of vehicle you drive, how far it is to your workplace, and what kind of transit you take instead. We have simply used average emissions and commuting distances to make an estimate, as our goal is to show how these individual actions add up when taken as part of broader community of concerned Canadians

Love the idea of Tidal Power. Since it runs on power of the water’s tide (an every day occurance) instead of wind (not always daily)makes the posibilities endless. Clean and just look how much water we have surrounding the US. Way to go Canada. The US has a lot of catching up to do.

This weblog appears to get a good ammount of visitors. How do you promote it? It gives a nice individual twist on things. I guess having something authentic or substantial to give info on is the most important factor.

Lauran Zerck March 9, 2011 at 12:33 am
