My mother is the ultimate clean car freak. If a Tim Horton’s coffee cup is left in her car, she will comment about how “dirty” her car is and how she will have to spend the weekend cleaning it up. My car, on the other hand, comes with its original dirt. I make sure that I do the least amount of work to keep it tidy and the pestilence away. So, when I received the Windshield Wonder for review, I had to recruit my mother. After all, who else would better know the effectiveness of a cleaning product?windshield_wonder2

What it is: Windshield Wonder is a specially made windshield cleaning tool. Essentially, it has a microfiber cleaning surface on the end of a sixteen inch long flexible plastic handle. The handle is ergonomically designed so that you do not have to strain your body to use Windshield Wonder. The kit includes the handle, which dissembles into two separate prices so that you can easily store it in your glove compartment (or special “cleaning bin”, if you are my mother), two microfiber bonnets and a spray bottle.

Some cars have fairly deep corners around the windshield area. At any rate, even without these narrow spaces, cleaning your windshield can cause you to contort your body at odd angles to get a thorough cleaning job done. TheWindshield Wonder takes the stretching and hanging upside down out of this painful / enjoyable task (your choice of descriptor will depend on if you are in my mother’s camp or mine on the whole car cleaning issue). My mother reports that the pivoting head (with microfiber bonnet) moves easily with little effort and does reduce the strain on your shoulders and neck. From my perspective, the greatest thing is that you do not need to use harmful or smelly cleaning products to get the job done – you simply fill your spray bottle with tap water and Windshield Wonder works without smudges and smears.

windshield_wonderimageThe inside of our windshields build up with dirt over time, even if you do not smoke in your vehicle. Apparently, this build up can be result of off gassing from the vinyl in your car (who knew?). A dirty windshield leads to reduced visibility. Reduced visibility leads to increased risk for accidents. If you don’t want to clean vinyl residue off of your windshield? You could always use Windshield Wonder to get rid of your windshield condensation or perhaps to clean the windows in your home.

When I gave my mother Windshield Wonder, it was like mini-Christmas. It took all of two seconds for her to rip into the package. Normally, hermetically-sealed-in-plastic products are super annoying to try to open, but Windshield Wonder has a perforated backing that allows you to get at the product without scissors or profanity.
