Thirty years ago when you called someone a tree hugger one may have conjured up images of an older  woman wearing muddy rubber boots and overalls which she made herself. Twenty years ago as we began to see the error of our disposable ways, being environmentally conscious was only for the elite who could afford the once expensive organic vegetables and organic cotton clothing. Today, being environmentally conscious is a lifestyle choice as well as an environmental necessity. As a consumer and a parent, its something we are learning about all the time and we are changing our behavior to reflect our new understanding of how to preserve our planet. Everyday we challenge ourselves to know better and to do better. As consumers we want to know where our goods come from and where they’ll end up. As parents, we teach our children everything we know and it is my hope that my son will automatically be a champion of our planet and that it is second nature to be kind to our earth because of the choices we make everyday.

As our children get older, we want it to become an everyday practice to be kinder to the planet. One of the most earth friendly items I’ve seen lately is one of the cutest; Fabkins are a collection of super cute everyday cloth napkins. Created and designed by two moms friends; Joyce Raffo and Paige Rodgers,  Fabkins was created out of the desire to offer kids a fun and easy way to be a part of saving the environment.

Fabkins are a set of reusable soft and durable everyday cloth napkins for kids, available in an array of bright colors with playful embroidered  designs. Fabkins are great for meals at home, tea time play time, picnics and are especially ideal for  packing in lunches to complete a waste free lunch.

Fabkins are perfectly sized (13 inches) for kids and come in themed packs of four and retail for $19.95. Some of the themes include Ballerina, Fruit Salad and my personal favorite the African Safari. I received for review 3 napkins; a pink and white checked gingham with a ballerina slipper, a solid teal blue with a cute caterpillar and a red and white stripped with a red checked ball. The napkins are made from 100% cotton and are made in the USA. Fabkins are machine washable; just throw them in the washer and tumble dry on low. Another great thing about Fabkins is they are a great size  to use for a placemat. Our little dude has eaten in his high chair for the first time yesterday so now when Mommy and Daddy have their place mats on the table, so does our dude. Teach them young and our kids will save our planet.

Although these are designed for kids, I think they are so cute I keep one in my diaper bag and one in my stroller, with a baby we are always wiping up spills, wiping away food and wiping his little face, not to mention using one in the food court in the mall, the tables are not always the cleanest. With Fabkins, I just put one on the table and I can pull out his crackers and put them on his Fabkin and not on the yucky table. Bonus! Love Fabkins!
