Aravon

avaron-logo

There’s a lot to be said about a comfortable shoe.  I like to wear fancy shoes once in a while, but I always seem to pay the price for it – some times for weeks later.  Many times, comfortable shoes means a bit of a compromise on style,  but thankfully with companies like Aravon, comfort and style live together in harmony.

avaronAravon prides itself in comfortable shoes.  For review they sent the Faye shoes, and I can tell you without a doubt these are tremendously comfortable.  These are the type of shoes that can be worn all day without having sore feet afterwards.  The shoes I received were a size 7, and they fit a little bit snug, but do not hurt my feet in any way.  As any shoe, with a little bit of wear they stretch out and mold to your feet perfectly.  These are the type of shoes that can be worn to the office all day, and also for a walk at lunch time.  They are such a comfortable shoe that you will find yourself wearing them everywhere.

All the shoes at Aravon are made precisely for a women’s foot, they take into consideration the width (no shoe will fit more than 2 widths of feet), they have a very in depth support system that not only includes the sole of the shoe but also the top, and also provide a shoe that is comfortable and easy to wear.  They have taken their time in manufacturing all their shoes.

Here are the features of the Faye shoe I received for review:

• T-frame stabilizer for added support and motion control
• Full-length layer of Abzorb® cushioning
• Primalux™ comfort cushion
• Removable Velocor™ footbed with stability cradle
• Soft-seam lining to avoid irritation
• Ionact® antibacterial protection

For a shoe, it seems to be a very good list of features.  As a women, I will be the first to admit that I probably have not taken very good care of my feet.  I have bought some very cheap shoes because they were so cute.  I have taken style over comfort too many times than I would like to admit.  I many have been saving money buying cheap shoes however I have paid a bigger price on my feet.  With the shoes at Aravon your feet will be thanking you.  I know mine are.

Checking your layout

I learned an important lesson, and thought it was important to pass it along to all of you.  A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about being able to find your email address on your blog, well this is along the same lines as that post.

google-chromeI use Google Chrome as my web browser, and I must say I love it!  Google Chrome is really smart, too smart actually, it corrects all the “mistakes” that otherwise I would see while browsing the internet.  One of the most common mistakes is coding.  Google Chrome is so smart, it knows that there is a mistake in the code, and fixes it, so I never see any weird wingdings or code in any of the websites I visit.  Although this sounds great (and it really is), there is a down side to using it.

internet-explorerThe other day I was on a computer that uses Internet Explorer as the web browser, I visited my website and was shocked to see the number of “mistakes” and coding errors that appeared on my website!  I could hardly believe it.  I know my blog isn’t perfect, I have a number of typos and could probably straighten a few things out, but for something so obviously “wrong” on my blog, I must say I was disappointed in myself.

So my lesson was this, check your blogs on another browser regularly to see how your blog looks.  Even though the layout may look great on your computer, but for some reason, it doesn’t quite “work” on another browser.  You can use browsershots.org to see your site on numerous browsers.

Gold Canyon – Gift Package – CLOSED

I love having candles on in my home.  Over the years, I have tried many different flavours and brand names of candles, some have been inexpensive and other have been overpriced.  The candles that I received from Gold Canyon have the absolute most divine scents that have ever made it into my home – and are affordable as well.

Gold Canyon has a large assortment of candles, bath and body products and home products.  The candle line at Gold Canyon have names that are good enough to eat (actually, the website has a few different categories, with one topic being edibles).  Other scents include blooms, Essential Oils, Fresh, Market and Nature.  Each line has a huge assortment of delectable candles in different sized votives ranging from tealights to 26 oz. jars.  I’m sure that everyone will be able to find their favourite secents at Gold Canyon, whether you love the smell of fresh flowers, the woods, a walk on the beach, or oranges there is something for everyone.

For review, Gold Canyon sent us the Coconut Pecan Brittle in a 13 oz jar.  First, I have to say that the presentation of the candle is excellent.  The jar came with a ribbon and looked like it was all wrapped up as a present.  I was actually quite surprised as to the size of the jar as well.  13 oz doesn’t really sound like very much, but to be honest, I think it is the perfect size for a candle, anything much larger and it almost be too big.

Now onto the smell, I wish computers and the internet had the ability to add scratch and sniff, because I can make you all a promise – if you smelled this candle, each and every one of you would buy it.  It is just so delicious.  The candle is a Coconut and Pecan Brittle explosion, even when it is not lit, the candle fills the room with it’s amazing scent.  When the candle is on, the whole house has a marvelous sweet scent that will have everyone craving Pecan Brittle.  The candle can burn for hours – around 100, I have used it for at least 5 hours and there hardly seems to be a dent in the wax.   This is something that your home needs for the holidays or when you are selling your house (one of those HGTV tricks).  The candle brings a wonderful warm feeling to your home.

I was also sent the Pomegranate candle from Gold Canyon in an 8 oz jar.  This scent is also delicious.  I would say it even smells better than pomegranate tastes.  If you have never tried a pomegranate before, you just have to taste it, not only is it delicious, it also has many health benefits.  The pomegranate smell is just so sweet and once again fills the whole house with a marvelous sweet and fresh smell – something that reminds me of summer time – it could be that it has a similar smell to a martini.  On other days it reminds me of a Christmas smell that makes the house feel all warm inside.  This candle can burn up to 50 – 65 hours giving of the pomegranate smell right until the last drop of wax is burned off.

The last item that Gold Canyon sent for review is part of their Be Green, Be Clean line.   It is an all-purpose Rosemary Mint spray that can be used for cleaning.   This is a gentle cleaner that can be used on just about anything in your home.  The spray not only leaves the house looking clean, it also gives it a very fresh smell afterwards.   The best part about the cleaner is that it is all natural, so there are no nasty chemicals that can stay in the air and end up in places like your lungs!  The cleaner is plant-based infused with essential oils of rosemary, peppermint, eucalyptus and spearmint.  So you can all just imagine the fresh smell it leaves behind.  The bottle comes in 35 fluid ounces and has a spray trigger which makes it easy to get the cleaner out.

Gold Canyon has definitely left a huge positive impression on my whole family.  My daughter that is not yet 15 months old loves to smell the candles (and so does the rest of the family).  And I love that the all purpose cleaner is easy to use on nearly all surfaces and is safe.  Take a peek around the Gold Canyon website and you will see all the marvelous flavours they have to offer – they will have you drooling!

Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs

ice-age-logo

Humans and animals alike have a natural instinct to have families.  In the new movie  Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs, Sid the lovable sloth has a natural feeling of being a parent after his mammoth friends Manny and Ellie are due to have a mini mammoth of their own.  In the process of trying to become a parent, Sid comes across a few nearly hatched eggs, which turn out to belong to a t-rex.  The adventure brings them to a “new” (or old) world which the characters never knew existed.

Here is a little synopsis of the movie:

ice-ageManny, Sid, Diego and Ellie are back for more pre-hysterical hijinks when Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs stomps onto Three-Disc Blu-ray Disc/DVD Combo Pack October 27 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.  The third film in the outrageously popular Ice Age franchise, the sub-zero heroes return another wild and fun adventure.  Scrat is still trying to nab the ever-elusive nut (while maybe finding true love); Manny and Ellie await the birth of their mini-mammoth; Diego the saber-toothed tiger wonders if he’s growing too “soft” hanging with his pals and Sid the sloth gets into trouble when he creates his own makeshift family by hijacking some dinosaur eggs.  On a mission to rescue the hapless Sid, the gang ventures into a mysterious underground world, where they have some close encounters with dinosaurs, battle flora and fauna, run amuck, and meet a relentless, one-eyed dino-hunting weasel named Buck.

My favourite character in the movie is Scrat, watching him trying to get his acorn throughout the movie is so comical.  While nearly reaching the acron that he forever seems to be chasing, Scrat encounters a bit of an obstacle – a lady – Scratte (how fitting).   I also enjoy Sids innocence, and the baby dino’s that get into lots of trouble and baby Peaches, the tiny mammoth is also adorable.

The movie maybe a little too scary for the younger children, there are lots of teeth and loud dinosaur screams.  But the older kids and parents are sure to enjoy the comical and exciting movie.

There is also a neat bonus feature, where you can hear commentary from the creators.  If you like knowing a little more about a movie, you will really enjoy tihis feature. It’s really interesting to hear what the creators have to say and why they chose the things they did.  I liked learning about Scratte.

Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs came out on DVD Oct 27th.

Negative Reviews

Simply Stacie

This weeks question comes from fellow Nova Scotian Blogger – Simply Stacie.

Her question is about products that don’t stand up to what they claim to be, how to approach the companies, and whether or not to write the review.

This is totally up to each blog owner.  In my case, I only write about products that I would want to tell my family and friends about.  If a product does have minor issues, such as sizing or shrinking, this is no big deal really.  I include it in my review so when people are going to purchase the product, they know to get a size bigger or smaller.

On the other hand, if a product breaks, or just doesn’t do what it claims to do, I will send the company an email explaining my situation.  The email usually sounds something like this:

Dear So & So,

I would like to Thank you for sending your products on My Wee View for a product review.  My Wee View’s intention is to bring positive online exposure for sponsors, and recommend products to my readers.  I have tested  your product for this past month, and unfortunately, the lift came out of my shoe/ the strap broke/ the lettering on my shirt fell off/ the stitching came undone, etc.  I will have to disclose these issues in the review, please let me know if you would like a review to be written and published.

Most retailers really appreciate the feedback, and in some cases, it was just a freak product that was sent.  They understand my situation, and will decline a review.  However, for the sponsor it was good that I was sent the product rather than a paying customer.  For example, my daughter was recently sent a pair of shoes that were too small because it was put in the wrong packaging.  Hopefully that company did some quality control to ensure that would not happen in the future.

However, some companies can be very upset about not writing a positive review.  In fact, I have lost a huge PR firm because I refused to budge on some issues I had with a product.  I reviewed one product and had 3 separate issues with it.  I told the PR rep I would write the review, but that I would have to include all three items.  The PR firm wanted me to exclude 1 issue, but I refused.  The PR firm then threatened to never work with me again.  I still refused to change my view, and lost the PR firm – but it was worth it – for your guys!!!!

To all my readers, you can be rest assured that although my reviews are mostly always positive, it is because I have had no issues with the products.

So to Stacie, and the rest of you out there,  you have 2 options if you receive a product that is faulty and does not meet your standards:

Option 1: Before getting started with review blogging, decide if you are going to publish negative reviews

Option 2: (If you haven’t chosen Option 1) Let the company know about the problem, and they can decide whether or not they want the review written and published

Hope this helps!

To the rest of you, what do you do?!?
