Winnie the Pooh: Season of Giving DVD – CLOSED

by Mommy on September 28, 2009

Although the blustery season is on it’s way, there are many things that I enjoy about winter.  It turns out that Hundred  Acre Woods also has some things they like about the wintertime.  To celebrate the 10th anniversary of  ”The Season of Giving”, Walt Disney and Studio Home Entertainment have come out with a special on DVD available September 29th.  ”The Season of Giving” is a full-length adventure with Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and Rabbit as they set out to find the season they have missed – Winter.

poohseasonofgiving10thanngiftset

The “Season of Giving” brings the warm feeling of winter activities, which involves friendship and good food during the holiday seasons of Thanksgiving and Christmas.   There are also some memorable songs which you will find yourself humming throughout the day.  The DVD also includes 2 bonus Pooh adventures, “The Magic Earmuffs” and the “Wishing Bear”.  The DVD also comes with a mini stocking with the characters of “The Season of Giving”.

Winnie the Pooh is one of my favourite cartoons and the “Season of Giving” is a classic holiday movie that my family will continue to enjoy as the years go on.

Giveaway: Walt Disney and Studio Home Entertainment would like to offer a lucky My Wee View reader a “Season of Giving” DVD.

For Christmas Eve, we go to our church’s Christmas Eve Service, then home for a late night pizza dinner (i know not very traditional but we have just always done it) then open our stockings…Huge breakfast next morning, open gifts, then big lunch and another big family dinner….lots of eating when you have a mennonite/german mom and italian dad:)

Our newest tradition is going to Disney the week after Thanksgiving! This DVD would make the perfect Christmas gift for my three and five year olds. Thanks for a fun giveaway!

Shelly aka Allysmama September 28, 2009 at 10:50 pm

Our traditions revolve completely around family! We eat a Christmas Eve dinner at my grandparents, then we go to my parents to open gifts with my my parents, brother and his family. On Christmas morning, we go to my grandparents for breakfast, then home for family gifts and then to my parents for lunch! After lunch, we actually get a chance to relax and enjoy the rest of our day…just the three of us…(me, hubby & daughter)

Thanks

Following the tradition my mom started, I buy my niece and nephew a new ornament each year, so that they will have plenty of treasured ornaments of their own to decorate their first tree of their own.

Lisa Gilmore September 29, 2009 at 12:00 am

Our traditions for the holidays are to create new traditions for our new family of 3 by including some of the traditions that we had growing up in our families and some brand new ones that are unique to us. Our new tradition is to bring some European flavour into it by opening a gift before bed on Christmas Eve.

On Christmas Eve, the kids open one giftin the morning and play with it for a bit. Then Dad brings them sledding while I finish my last minute wrapping. Christmas morning we open gifts and then play until the Turkey dinner is ready.

One of my favorite parts of the holidays (besides shopping and wrapping gifts) is the cookies I make the week before Christmas. To celebrate Christmas, we attend family mass at 5:00, then head to my mother-in-laws for Christmas Eve Dinner. Christmas morning is spent at home…I always make a nice, big breakfast. In the afternoon, we head to my parents’ house where my entire family meets (3 brothers, 3 sisters and their families). I love Christmas!

Marci September 29, 2009 at 3:46 pm

A tradition that started when I was a child, I have carried on to my children etc…
My Mom would let us open one present on Christmas Eve. It was always a new pair of PJs. I still do this with my 7yo and 3yo daughters. My 26yo daughter now does this with my two granddaughters.
Even now sometimes my Mom still gets my sister and I PJs for Christmas eve.

If we don’t do a big xmas party on xmas eve… we don’t decorate till xmas eve after all the little kids (under 12 or those who believe in santa) goes to bed. So on Christmas morning the kids wake up the house full of chrismas decorations, presents, and to the smell of christmas breakfast. Oh and the last kid that wakes up is the first one to open his/her present… that was the kicker to keep them in bed longer. Growing up christmas morning was the best time to be around the family.

Well, our traditions are currently in transition (since we have the 2 little ones, Christmas is starting to move to our house as opposed to my parents’).

We get up in the morning and when my parents come over, we open stockings. Then we have breakfast of a special Christmas braid my mom makes every year and muffins/cinnamon buns and grapefruit. We then begin opening the other gifts, one at a time. We usually have our main dinner in the early afternoon (this year I’m going to try to cook my first turkey!) We then spend the afternoon playing games, snowshoeing, etc. and eat leftovers for supper.

One tradition starts in October, around the 15th, I start baking and freezing Christmas cookies, tarts, truffles and other edibles and I make and start “marinating” a family fruitcake (yep, it’s pretty intoxicated by Christmas!). Traditionally, all the family gathers at our house the day after Christmas to celebrate our family Christmas. Because our children are all grown, married, and have kids of their own, we have to share them with in-laws:) Unfortunately, we live four hours away from our children, so it’s not like we can just meet for dinner than drive home. So, celebrating our family Christmas the day after enables us to have our children and grandchildren “home” for Christmas:)

We start off the Christmas season by cutting down our own Christmas tree. The kids love it so much that they won’t let us get an artificial tree. Of course the tree is always so much bigger than it looks out in the field and it takes up 1/2 our living room. Lots of good memories being made.

Since getting married we’ve been working on developing our own traditions, so far things have changed every year, but now that our son is in the picture I would like to start to be more consistent. We do usually open one present on Christmas Eve. And we always get together with our families for Christmas dinner (but it’s not always actually on Christmas).

Our main tradition is for all of the family to get together on Christmas Eve and open gifts. Also, we would have our Christmas meal that day. When I was a child, I was told the reason for this is that Santa showed up early for the good children.

We get together on Christmas Eve and let the kids open 1 present right before bed……usually our choice on which one. On Christmas morning we all take turns opening a present so that everyone can “ooh and aah” over all the presents and it gives us more time together before the kids run away and play on their own for the rest of the day! :)

We practice the tradition of “Advent” and the lighting of candles that starts right after Thanksgiving and ends on the 12th day of Christmas which is January 6 all of which is considered Christmas. The tree does not come down until the end of this holiday. We also only buy a few presents (nothing big) but focus on the giving instead like participating in picking a child in need from an “Angel Tree”. We don’t want our children to equate Christmas with “getting”.

One of our traditions is to spend a certain day with everyone in our neighbourhood where everyone helps everyone else put up their lights and decorations. Once the sunsets we walk around and do a “lighting ceremony” complete with hot chocolate and candy canes.

On Christmas Eve we open gifts at our house, Christmas morning we go to my in-laws, and Christmas afternoon we go to my husband’s grandparents house for a big family gathering. Just last year we looked at all the rotary lights and went to the Christmas lights parade, and I think that will be added to our tradition this year. :)

Our tradition is that we do a Secret Family gift exchange, and include family from out of state. We also have a drawing where each family gives $20 and the person that correctly guesses the most of who has who wins the title of Gift Exchange king or Queen. A donation to a local charity is also given in his/her name.

My christmas tradition is to go to my mom’s house on christmas eve with all my siblings and nieces and nephews to open presents. Nothing beats the excitement of children opening gifts “early”…it will be the first christmas this year without their papa as he passed away a couple of weeks ago…he was the biggest kid of all so it will be difficult for everyone without him there to share in the excitement.

My family’s tradition is to have a large gathering [extended family + friends; usually 35 people or more]. Everyone brings a unisex gift under $20 [wrapped up] and later after dinner we’ll each draw a number and go for the gifts than if the next person wants another persons gift, they can grab it. It gets quite hilarious towards the end with everyone fight for the best [usually those alcohol giftsets with neat items] gift.

There’s almost always a trick gift in the mix. 5 years ago my cousin put a small bottle of SCOPE mouthwash in a wooden box just big enough for the item.. put nails thru it [not to pierce it though], wrapped it in duct-tape, smeared superglue all over it with another layer of tape than wrapped it up… My uncle got it and tried to open… Hammer did nothing… He took it outside and lit it on fight [I'm amazed the firefighters weren't called] but it did nothing.

Christmas just with my parents and brothers [and sisterinlaw and niece and nephew] they just come to our place and we have a turkey dinner, open the gifts first thing in the morning and spend the afternoon removing plastic and twisty ties from toys.. and trying to find batteries for all the umpteen dozen toys!

To this day he still has it and we still laugh about it.

Heather October 4, 2009 at 1:36 pm

The Sunday before Christmas we have a CHristmas dinner at my Great-Grandmothers house. Then on Christmas Eve we have a Christmas dinner at another grandparents house and exchange gifts. Then on Christmas we have a dinner at my other grandmothers house. Then my nephew always likes for me to play with him and his new toys.

One of our family traditions is that on Christmas Eve we make hot chocolate and walk our small neighbourhood visiting with our neighbours sharing our evening with those that share our area of life.
Sometimes the kids sing Christmas carols but most often we just spend time catching up with each other and making it known how much we appreciate our neighbours.

My favorite tradition for the holidays is giving each of our kids a new ornament each Christmas Eve. We try to give ones that commemorate something that happened throughout the year. For instance, my son started band this year so we will try to find him a saxophone ornament. When my kids start homes of their own, they will have a box full of Christmas ornaments for their own trees and hopefully a lot of memories to go along with them.

We have a traditional Christmas dinner with the whole family. Around Thanksgiving, we make the raviolis that we serve for the Christmas meal.

One tradition we have is the Santa Key. We have this really pretty key that the kids hang on the door to help let Santa in since we don’t have a fireplace.

We do all the usual traditions but one that we do that most family’s don’t is delivering fresh homemade donuts to our loved ones on Christmas Eve so everyone we know has something special for Santa.

I always have Christmas Eve at my house. We have a nice dinner and exchange gifts. The stuffed stockings must wait until Christmas Day which is at my married son’s house. The next day we go to the in-laws. We try to draw it out as long as possible. We love Christmas because it is the time of year when everyone forgets why they were mad.
