Eating Right Kids – Looney Tunes lunch bag and goodies – CLOSED

My friend, Shawna, has three kids and another on the way in less than a week. The oldest, a teenager is the only girl in the group and the boys are under the age of five. To say that this woman is short on time is a bit of an understatement, so I figured if anyone was going to benefit from the Looney Tunes Eating Right Lunch Bag from Safeway, Child’s Play Communications and Team Mom that I received for review, it would be her.

The two boys are polar opposites of one another and meal times are no exceptions. Gabe is a notoriously picky eater and Phoenix is an eat-any-kind-of-meat kid. Says Shawna of lunch time nutrition: “If Gabe eats, I’m excited. If Phoenix eats fruits and veggies, I am willing to allow him to watch TV for a week, solid.” Cue the Warner Brothers Lunch Bag!

No surprise, Phoenix gobbled the microwaveable Mini Ravioli with Beef. And Gabe actually had a mouthful, which, if you know Gabe, is a real compliment to the chef. The whole wheat pasta serving was a bit too large even for Phoenix
(15 ounces), but he ate until full. The product contained a whopping 10g of protein, 5 g of fiber and the sodium count
was on the higher side.

Shawna says that the ” fact the noodles are whole wheat gave me some comfort” and liked the overall consistency of the product, adding ”the meatballs were meaty, not too squishy like some other similar types of pre-made pastas”. She said that ”all in all a tasty, balance, convenient to use meal.” And also liked hat the pasta meal was only 160 calories.

The boys both enjoyed their favorite Looney Tunes characters ushering them through lunch time; the food and the re-usable insulated lunch bag displayed Bugs Bunny, Tweety, Taz, Sylvester, Wile E. Coyote, Roadrunner, Marvin the
Martian and Daffy Duck. Included in the meal were a chewy chocolate covered granola bar, a fruit cup and a bottle of
apple juice. I should note here that Phoenix drank most of his apple juice and poured the last one third of it over his brother’s head, in retaliation of some unknown offense earlier in the day.

We all know that getting our youngsters to eat healthy requires some effort and sometimes even a miracle, so it is encouraging to get some help from food makers, who, whether we like it or not, play a huge role in influencing our
kids’ behaviours. Starting kids on healthy eating early on sets the pace for their eating habits throughout their
entire lives. North American kids are faced with an onslaught of childhood obesity, which can be a pre-cursor for
heart disease, Type II Diabetes, high blood pressure and other systemic diseases that are very difficult to treat and control.
