California Baby

I was the second last of my close circle of friends to have children so I knew about California Baby long before we had a baby. In my circle of moms many of us are “hippies at heart” we use cloth diapers, we practice baby wearing,  we believe in extended nursing and we check the labels on all of our personal products to make sure we are using the best for our children; that means checking what is in a product as well as noting what is not in a product. We do this because we want the best for our children; there are too many companies adding too many chemicals and unnecessary ingredients to our products. We have seen recalls and have been warned of the dangers of BPA, phalates etc. These are the ones we know about, we have to be concerned about the ones we don’t know about.

California Baby has been on the market since 1995 and its a favorite among many moms. You may wonder what makes California Baby products so great?  First, let me say California Baby makes an amazing assortment of products for your children. They have a selection especially dedicated to the care of your newborn featuring such essential items such diaper cream,  non-talc powder and shampoo and body wash.

As a bonus they make sun-screen that can be used for infants under 6 months of age. While it is recommend to keep your infant out of the sun as much as possible, sometimes you need to use a bit and you can rest assured that California Baby is safe for you child as it is non chemical, it has no fragrance and has an SPF of 30.

In addition to wonderful products for your baby, California Baby has a line of Natural Hygiene, Essential Oil, Spritzers as well as a great selection of gifts and totes which can a perfect shower gift or a treat for yourself.

I received for review California Baby Colds and Flu Aromatherapy Bubble Bath, designed to relieve congestion and stuffiness. With the very cold weather arriving soon, I will be using the bubble bath on a regular basis. With a lovely blend of eucalyptus, fir needles, aloe vera and tea tree Colds and Flu has a nice light scent. Not too strong, not too light, just the perfect amount. The Cold and Flu Aromatherapy Bubble Bath has all the features I look for in a product; it contains organic and sustainably grown ingredients, it does not have  sodium lauryl sulfate, DEA, or numbing agents or use  synthetic fragrances. As a bonus, most of the California Baby products are great for adults as well! . In particular, the Cold and Flu Aromatherapy Bubble Bath is a great way to relieve congestion and lower a temperature for adults with high blood pressure as over-the-counter decongestants can elevate blood pressure.

The California Baby website is a great source for information, I recommend everyone should go into the FAQ section for a comprehensive listing of Product and Ingredient FAQ. If you are like me and want to know what is going into your products, the California Baby website clearly explains in an easy to understand language about many of the “buzzwords” regarding the  ingredients used (natural fragrance, preservatives, organic products) as well as the ingredients not used (sulfates, Phthalates and DEET) and why this distinction is important.

In today’s drugstores you will find hundreds on “new and improved” formulas and more often than not they use some common buzzwords like “natural”, “green”, and “pure” to suggest to the consumer that their products are  eco-friendly and safe for your child. As a consumer who is concerned about the products I use on myself and my family as I was very glad to find a website by the Environmental Working Group called skin deep, it is essentially an environmental watchdog as it gives cosmetic  products a rating from 0-10 based on their ingredients listed to help us consumers separate  the really great products and those claiming to be. The website sorts products into 3 ratings based on the ingredients listed and their hazard rating. 0-2 is a low hazard, 3-6 is a moderate hazard and 7-10 being a high hazard. They have 51 of California Babys‘ products and they all are listed as a 3 or under on the hazard scale. Most are listed as a 1 or a or a o, this is amazing! We all look for the safest, purest products for our wee ones, California Baby is the product for our household. They have a really vast assortment of products and are really quite reasonably priced considering the quality of the ingredients and the care taken with each and every product. See for yourself, you’ll love California Baby.
