Let me say outright that my daughter has not inherited my husband’s beautiful, flowing locks. Instead, she seems destined to suffer my same skinny hair fate, so most of the products offered by Baby Wisp are nothing more than a promise at this point in our lives. Baby Wisp hair accessories are specifically designed to deal with angel hair, but we aren’t even at that stage yet (being bald and all); I continue to pray to the hair gods for both of us.

I am not a frills kind of woman. I may wear makeup once a year and usually that means a sheer lip gloss and on really big occasions, mascara. I have come to grips with the idea that I may have a frills kind of girl. In fact, I suspect that I will be given the challenge / opportunity of raising a child exactly like my mother, an all out feminine assault of everything ”girlie”. Having said all that, I thought that I was rather hip to the different hair accessories that the cool girls are into these days. That was
yesterday. Today I know just how uncool I actually am. Alligator clips? Crocheted flowers on ponytail clips? Head bands with super cute embellishments? And they are even available with Austrian Swarovski Crystals too! For review, I received baby hair
barrettes, a hairband and a ponytail clip.

My first foray into little girl hair accessories started
this morning with a beautiful chocolate brown headband with crocheted pink flowers (two shades of pink, thank you very much). Genevieve was at first a little confused and kept trying to look up to see what it was that I had put on her head; she was quite intrigued with it. I was pleased to note that even with her generous head circumference, the head band fit without being snug and uncomfortable and stayed in place even with all of her wriggling around.

For such a simple thing, a lot of thought has gone into the making of these hair accessories. For example, many of the clips are made with ribbon. For all you crafty types out there, you know how much ribbon frays. Even I know how much ribbon frays. The makers have solved this pesky problem by heat sealing the ends – brilliant!

Baby Wisp states that their products are the ”cutest hair jewelry on the planet” and I am inclined to say that just having them around the house makes me smile a little bit. They are available in a seemingly endless array of colours and patterns all chic and fun.  You can check out their beautiful products on their website at www.babywisp.com

This company had me at handmade. This is likely to lead to some variation, with an end result that equals quality and more importantly, my affection. Handmade goods are just better. And they are Canadian owned and manufactured (Edmonton, Alberta); another plus.

It is important to note here that the makers of Baby Wisp suggest that you either supervise very little kids closely while they are wearing their products, as the clips come out of the hair easily enough (and if your kid is like mine, that means that the clips would then immediately go in their mouths). Or you can wait until the kid is older than three, when the accessories become less of a choking hazard. The company has a suggested age of 3+ years or younger, if supervised. In my case, Genevieve may be waiting until the age of three for hair, so I guess we don’t have to worry about that.
