Slanket – Blanket with Arms – CLOSED

by Mommy on July 29, 2009

Do you have something in your home that everyone wants?  Before I received the Slanket, everyone in my home wanted to sit on the rocker recliner, now everyone wants to sit on the rocker recliner with the Slanket.  What is a Slanket?  Well, it is a fleece blanket with sleeves.  Sounds simple, it is pretty simple, but it is so comfortable, and so warm.

slanket1Gary Clegg created the Slanket while in university.  How many times have you been all cuddled under a blanket and had to pull your arm out from under the warmth to change the channel with the remote?  Greg had had enough of that experience, and cut a hole in a sleeping bag to change the channels.  Thanks to his Mom, a prototype was created, and then it manifested into what it is today.

The Slanket comes in 12 different colours, we received one in a deep red.  The Slanket is extremely soft, a generous size and just so comfortable. The holes in the sleeves are very large so anyone’s arms can fit into it.  The Slanket is also long enough to cover  my neck way past my toes.  The upper portion around my chest gets all bunched up  because I do not have a long torso, but what’s what makes this blanket so versatile, one size fits all.  If a larger person were to wear the Slanket there would not be as much bunching.

slanket2I actually wear the Slanket 2 ways, the way it was intended with the blanket covering the front of my body, or like a bathrobe as well.  Sometimes I like the extra warmth around my back and wrap the front of the blanket around myself (it’s big enough to do this).  Either way, it’s great to be able to have my hands free while still being all wrapped up and comfy cosy while changing the channel to the tv, or blogging!  Yes, I can wear the Slanket while typing on my laptop.  The sleeves are a little long, but once I get my hands in the right spot, they stay in place, and I am free to type away on my laptop keeping my body, and arms toasty warm.

slanket3My mother and husband both like the Slanket as well, and it fits both of them too.  My suggestion would be to get a few Slanket because if it’s anything like my house, everyone will want to use it.  This is even in the spring season, I can only imagine what it’s going to be like in the winter when it’s actually cold out. The Slanket also comes in children sizes as well.

My sons would really enjoy wearing a Slanket this Fall/Winter!
They love throws and blankets. I read on the Slanket Site that
they will donate a percentage of all sales to The Breast Cancer
Foundation. This means a lot to me because in my group of eight
friends, 3 have had breast cancer. The third one is 42 years old
and was just diagnosed. Please enter me in your marvelous giveaway
drawing. Many thanks, Cindi

I learned that this is how it started.

One subzero night in 1998 during my first semester of college I could not escape Maine’s winter bite. While watching Late Night with Conan O’Brien I decided I needed to tear a hole in my sleeping bag so I could keep my upper body warm as I channel surfed during the commercial breaks. During Christmas vacation I commissioned the first Slanket to be made by my mother…and it was born.

But, what I learned about Slanket on their website is that they actually care about PEOPLE and CHARITIES…each slanket (depending on color) goes to ONE of THREE different charities…the color I want goes to breast cancer research (which, in a way, ties in with one of the reasons this girl needs a SLANKET! Thanks for this wonderful opportunity and I’m SO glad I’ve found you’re blog!

NEWS FLASH! Slanket Engineers Dabble in Time-Travel, Results Shocking
During an overnight watch at the Slanket Labs, a junior engineer entered the lab’s new proton accelerator while still wearing his Slanket. This was of course, in strict violation with established CERN protocol regarding the type of garments worn inside a proton accelerator. The accelerator was being used to test the feasibility of an anti-matter Slanket, which would be comfortable and would provide sufficient power generation for an average city. The automated process fired the accelerator while the engineer was still within the structure

patricia August 1, 2009 at 12:10 pm

We have decided to donate a portion of sales to three different organizations, which we believe are worthy. As a part of this, we have coupled different color Slankets with different charities.
