Hug Of Joy – Review & Giveaway & Discount Code – Closed

hugofjoy

I really appreciate a good company name.  It’s hard to come up with something that is clever, witty, but still simple enough for people to know what your business is.  One of the best company names I have come across so far is “Hug Of Joy”.  Hug Of Joy specializes in custom made slings, and the designer behind it all? You guessed it – Joy Nolette!  Isn’t that clever?  I just love it, another thing to love about Hug Of Joy is – it’s made in Canada!

hugofjoy2Hug Of Joy makes customized slings for each and every person.  Before receiving my Hug Of Joy sling, I had to give Joy my exact measurements so she could make sure that the sling I received would be perfect for me and DD.  I had to measure from my shoulder across my back to my opposite side. To find out the exact spot on my side where I had to measure to, I had to bend over (like I was doing I’m a little tea pot), and stick my finger in that spot.  I had my husband help me measure, and we did it 3 times, just to make sure our measurements were right.  Once I found out how many inches it was, I went to the Hug Of Joy sizing chart to get my size.  Because of my chest size, I had to go up one size.  I’m short at only 5’2″, and usually wear a Med or Large top, but only because of my chest.  I gave all this info to Joy before hand so she could make a sling that would fit me perfectly. To get your measurement Simply Visit the “Shop” at Hug Of Joy and follow Measuring Instructions to fill out the Order form with all your pertinent information – couldn’t be easier.

Once I received my Hug Of Joy and put it on, I could see why the perfect fitting was necessary.  I have other slings, and they fit me as well, but I usually have to turn the shoulders over to get a tight fit.  With my Hug Of Joy there is no need to flip any material over my shoulder, it’s always the right size, and DD is as snug as a bug in a Hug Of Joy.

The Hug Of Joy is made out of a hypoallergenic material, that is blended with crab and shrimp shells, which gives this fabric its remarkable properties: naturally hypoallergenic, non-toxic, antibacterial, odor resistant, breathable, moisture wicking and biodegradable.  It also has a bit of a stretch to it,but it has not stretch out as it has a memory and springs back to it’s shape when DD is taken out.  My Sling is brown and pink reversible – our favourite colour combo.   There is a little blue Size Tag on my Hug Of Joy which is at the exact spot where my shoulder is suppose to be, this marker helps me make sure I have the sling in the right place. There is also a Hug Of Joy logo in thehugofjoy3gif very front.  DD sits perfectly on my hip as if I was carrying her without a sling on.  The great thing is, I have 2 free hands to do whatever I want.  I can carry her on my hip, or kangaroo style (her favourite) cradle positions, and when she is a little bit older I will be able to carry her on my back (there are 9 different holds in total).  It’s very easy to bend over and do everyday chores with DD in the Hug Of Joy sling. I can carry her around for a generous amount of time, and she will be happy.  Although she is getting a bit older now and wants to be on the go a little more. I miss the days when I could carry her around the house all day.  I have washed this, and it did not shrink.  It fits as good as the first time I tried it on. The Hug Of Joy can be used for newborn babies right up until they are 30 pounds or about 3 years old.

The Hug Of Joy sling is very easy to put on, and is a very easy to fold up into a small package.  I am able to bring it with me in my diaper bag in case of an emergency. Baby wearing promotes healthy development and keeps your child happier.  A happy child means a happy mother.  I am a very big baby wearing supporter, because I know it is health for DD and for me too.

If you are looking for a customized baby sling, that will fit your perfectly, contact Hug Of Joy, Joy will make sure that the sling you order will be the sling for you.

I learned that babies are born with reflexes to help them hang on to their parents! Very cool.

I learned that this is one of the few carriers that can have baby on the front facing in or out, and switched effortlessly to the back in one motion without removing baby from the carrier. That is totally awesome!

I just wanted to say I love the info on the Hug of Joy site that says that babies are meant to be carried and that they instinctively hang on to their mothers. I love that… I believe a lot in a mother’s instinct too, and I LOVE to carry my baby :) Thanks for the info and you make beautiful slings as well!

Donna May 24, 2009 at 9:50 pm

I love everything about it after reading the site. I learned a lot actually. I think the biggest thing for me after reading it is that it is versatile AND it helps distribute the babys weight evenly. This is HUGE for me. I have severe scoliosis and love to have my baby in a carrier but have not found one yet that I am able to wear for long periods of time. Would love to see if this is the one. I also like how it has 9 different positions and you can chose two different colors for it. Very nice!

Kara May 24, 2009 at 10:16 pm

I thought it was cool that they say babywearing can reduce the risk of depression. I can see how, it’s so sweet to have my baby fall asleep while I wear him, all cuddled against me. :)

I learned that “Carried babies have advanced motor skills because their vestibular system in their brain is stimulating by the person carrying them. This means carried babies will already have begun to acquire balance & muscular development before they start to crawl & walk.”

because of the stretch baby will not feel confined and become restricted as they grow. This allows you to use your sling much longer and your child will still enjoy going in it up to at least 30lbs or 3 years old

I learned that “Babies who are carried cry less – up to 51% according to studies – & have decreased levels of stress hormone in their blood streams.” I did not wear my son, but I can’t wait to start babywearing with our next baby.

Wow, great product! I learned a lot, such as using this product will improve the tone and ligaments in a woman that were stretched during her pregnancy, and that a baby that is carried will acquire balance and muscular development before it even walks!
