Envirosax – Review & Giveaway – Closed

On April 22nd (Earth Day) my local grocery store stopped giving out plastic bags for free.  They now cost 5 cents each.  A few years ago my husband and I lived in Winnipeg and plastic bags cost 4 cents at the grocery store.  I never seemed to have a problem paying 4 cents a bag, it was just like second nature, I would always ask for 10 bags (we always used them for our dog throughout the week afterward).  I’m not sure why, but I will now refuse to buy bags and I even refuse bags at store that are free.  My new motto, for about the last 2 years, is (and my husband can attest to this) “I’m going to save the world one plastic bag at a time”.  My husband will always have a little smile on his face when he sees me walking out of a store with my item in hand (bag-less) and a receipt in another.  He knows that I have told the store clerk my pledge to save the world.

The only place I used bags was at the grocery store, so I am very thankful that they have changed their policies and have forced people into environmentally friendly options.  We bought some of those green bins, and canvas bags to bring all our groceries, so far we have remembered our own bags and have not bought any plastic bags.

Although I have a number of different types of bags, my favourite (by far, because it’s so stylish and everyone else has green and black canvas bags) is my bag by Envirosax. When I received my Envirosax I was impressed by how small a package it could be wrapped up into. Remember windbreakers?  You could have a full jacket that could be packaged up into a tiny package? That is what this is like. I was so impressed by how small the Envirosax became I took a picture of it, because I thought I would never get it that small again – I was wrong.  I unwrapped the bag, and inside there were directions on how to wrap up the bag to make it that small again.  I tried it right away and it was a breeze.  There is even a little snap to keep the bag wrapped up in it’s little package.

The Envirosax is a very light thin material, and I must tell you I was nervous about using it for groceries.  I don’t know what I was nervous about, this bag can hold cans, cans, and more cans!  I was so impressed at how sturdy, and strong the bag was.  It’s kind of like an ant, it can carry over 50 times it’s weight.  It is also a very generous size.  I would say a single person could probably put a full grocery load in one bag.  Including things like a liter of milk, soups, crackers, pastas, lots of cans, fruits and veggies, treats, and bread.

I really like how fashionable this bag is,  the clerks all admire my sense of style and ask where I got it!  The only thing that I don’t like (not that it matters to me, because I am not the one putting the items in the bag) is that it is a little floppy.  The other bags I have can stand up right on their own, to put items in this bag you need to hold the handles open.  No big deal really.  On the other hand, when it comes to storage, this bag is amazing compared to my other canvas bags.  I can easily fold this one up and put it in my purse, this way I always have a reusable bag ready to go.  What’s the point of having a reusable bag if you never have it on hand to use it?  I do love that part, it is very convenient.

Overall, I am very very pleased with the Envirosax, it’s impressively sturdy, fashionable, and very compact.  On top of all that, the prices are great at only $8.50 a bag.  What an easy and inexpensive way to save the world “One bag at a time”.
