Happy Earth Day everyone!

We are finally beginning to realize that we are running out  of natural resources, and that not everything is renewable.  If we want this world to be here for our children and our children’s children, we really have to start taking care of the world that we live in.  Bamboo is a renewable resource that grows very quickly.  Some types of bamboo can grow up to 1 meter per day. Some have even said you can “watch it grow”, it grows so quickly.  I have to say a few years ago when I first heard about things being made of bamboo, I thought the items would be rough and itchy, kind of like a burlap sack.  It’s hard to believe that clothing and other material made out of bamboo which is a wood, can actually be very very soft, and be just as functional as cotton or terry cloth, but be even more absorbent. As a mom with a small child, I really appreciate any company that is working hard to keep this world a better place for my daughter.

Bamboosa makes all their products out of bamboo, they have items for babies, and moms and dads too.  They have clothing, cloths, towels, blankets, bibs, along with quite a few other products all made from bamboo!  I dealt with Mindy at Bamboosa, she was delightful to work with. Shortly after our first contact I received a beautiful package from Bamboosa.  The packaging from Bamboosa was top notch!  Everything was made from reuseable materials, the paper, ties, tags and inserts are made from recycled paper as well as the Bamboo tissue paper.  The ties are made from hemp!  I love detail, and I was very pleased to see the amount of effort that Bamboosa has put into their packaging.

The products at Bamboosa are just as good.  I received a cute pink bamboo bib with a little panda bear cub picture on it.  The bibs are 80% Viscose from Organic Bamboo and 20% recycled polyester (rPET) – recycled soda bottles- I have never heard of that before! The bottles are sorted, shredded, then melted and spun into fiber. The EPA and the FDA has tested recycled PET bottle material for any harmful effects with the conclusion that rPET is of “suitable purity for food-contact use”. Recycling organizations and manufacturers have embraced this technology as a positive use of recycled material and alternative to landfill disposal.  How cool is that?

bamboosa4The bib ties around the back so I can always get the perfect fit around my daughters double chin. The bib is a generous size and covers her chest very nicely. The most surprising part about this bib is how absorbent it is.  For a very lightweight piece of material, it can hold a lot of moisture. My daughter is a very messy eater, I think more food gets on her than in her mouth.  It’s really hard to get the spoon in the right place when her arms are flapping about.  It’s like an obstacle course for me to get food in her mouth. I have to dodge her hands then I have to try to get the spoon into her mouth which she is moving back and forth.  So, in some cases, I am surprised that any food makes it into her mouth at all.  So as you may have guessed, most of her food makes it onto her bib or highchair tray.  Because of this, I need a really nice thick bib that will catch all the missed food.  The bib from Bamboosa is so absorbent, none of the carrots, or peas leaked through onto her clothes.  I was interested to see how absorbent this bib really was, so I ran it under water.  After about 30 seconds of being placed under a running tap at high pressure, water did start to soak through to the other side.  The weird thing was that the water did not spread to other parts of the bib, it just remained where I had run the tap.

This bib is lightweight and very easy to bring around in a diaper bag as it folds up pretty small.  These Bamboosa bibs come in pink, white. blue and green. If you are looking for a very easy way to help with the environment, a bib made from bamboo is perfect, they are soft, absorbent and these ones are cute too.

The other item I was sent from Bamboosa was some washcloths.  The washcloths are made from the same composition as the bib, so once again, they are bamboo and recycled polyester. Babies have extremely sensitive skin so the softness of these bamboo washcloths are great for them.  The cloths are absorbent so it makes it very easy to wash their little bodies with.  I especially like using these cloths for washing my daughters hair.  I can just fill the cloth with water and pass the cloth over her head.  This eliminates me from having to pour water over her head and potentially putting shampoo in her eyes.  I can get enough water from the washcloth to remove the soap after just a few squeezes.  I like these cloths as well.  They are very soft and fluffy, and feel great to use.  These great washcloths come in packages of 5, but I can promise you that you will want more as they are ultra soft!  There are adult sizes as well, but I find the baby size is fine for me.

If you would like to make this world a better place for your children.  Please invest in renewable resources and recycled materials!  Bamboosa has both of these in their products.  I love that they are socially responsible and are thinking about the future.
