UC Baby – Review & Giveaway – CLOSED

by Mommy on February 18, 2009

My husband and I were ecstatic to find out we had finally done it, we were going to have a baby.  The anticipation of waiting 9 months was too much to bear, we could hardly wait to meet our new addition.  We wanted to prepare as much as we could and so decided to go to UC Baby to find out the gender.  Here in Nova Scotia, they wont tell you if you are having a boy or a girl at your regular 20 week ultra sound, and they don’t even give you a picture of the ultra sound.

Being pregnant was such an incredible time for my husband and I, that we wanted to capture and treasure the moments as much as we could.  We are so happy that we did decide to go to UC Baby.  Not only were we able to share the UC Baby experience between ourselves, but we were able to bring in 6 members of our family, and my husbands family watched over the Internet from Winnipeg.  Up to 4 email addresses can be added to watch the show happen live.  So, when we got the news that we were having a girl, everyone celebrated at the same time.  It was an incredible feeling to have everyone there, we all found out together.

Many people would say “Don’t you want to save the surprise for when the baby is born?”.  To that I say “My in laws would have missed that amazing experience and they got to share that experience with us now”.  Also, I did not want my baby wearing yellow, or have a yellow nursery.  Otherwise, my husband would have painted twice, once before the baby was born (yellow) and once after the baby was born (pink).

The staff at UC Baby were amazing.  As we waited for our turn to go into the ultrasound room, another couple had just completed their ultra sound and found out they were having a girl and were beaming from ear to ear. We were given a little form to fill out, and waited anxiously.  Finally, it was our turn.  The ultra sound tech was actually a nurse that has over 20 years of experience working with ultra sounds.  We felt very confident in her experience.  In less than 1 minute, she had the heartbeat and the sex already figured out.  She took almost 100 pictures of our baby girl.  She took pictures of everything.  Her face, legs, feet, hands, and the pictures look absolutely amazing.

I had seen other 3D ultra sound pictures before, but my mother and father could hardly believe the quality that the ultra sound produced. It’s not like those old ultra sound pictures when you can’t tell heads from tails. You can see a baby, you can see the ears, the nose, the eyes, even the tongue – everything.  We could watch in real time as the baby moved about and was opening and closing her mouth and swallowing the amniotic fluid.  It was like being right there with her.  It was so amazing to be able to show my husband what I was feeling living inside my tummy.  All the times before, I would say “feel the baby, she is moving so much.”  As soon as he would touch her, she would stop moving.  But now, he could see her moving about.

There was not a dry eye in the room, or over the Internet for that matter.  It was just the most amazing experience.  I would suggest everyone go to UC Baby, it is an experience you don’t want to miss.  If you don’t want to know the gender, they wont tell you.  You can just go to see your baby for 1/2 an hour moving about living in their little environment.

After the 1/2 hour session was complete, we headed back to the waiting room where the admin assistant walked us through all the pictures, like I said there were almost 100!  The CD of all the pictures was ours to keep, but they printed off 2 pictures right then and there so we could have something tangible in our hands to show people.  It’s instant gratification, no waiting for photos to develop, we had them in hand as we walked out the door.

If you do go, and the baby is not co-operating with the ultra sound tech, they will reschedule in for free.  You will get an extra session so they can get some good quality pictures of your little one.

Although the price may seem a little steep, there are a number of packages to choose from.  You can get a Teddy Bear with a recording of your babies heart beat, you can go just to find out the gender, you can get a package that allows you 2 different sessions.  Large or small budget, this is one experience you don’t want to miss.  Out of all the things I have done in my life, this experience is one of my very favourite ones!

If you would like to have this amazing experience, go to the UC Baby website to see which city is nearest you.  It is in 19 different cities across Canada.

You can also give a UC Baby package as a shower gift – you’ll be the coolest one at the party!

Thanks for the opportunity!

That is so amazing. Technology has made such great leaps. It’s hard to believe that you can watch your baby in utero without disturbing it. Then you get a cute heartbeat bear to share with an excited sibling that they can cuddle while they wait for the real thing.
If I were rich I would choose the golden package at the Cambridge location.
